Day Zero: Cary, NC - Packing...

Well, we are supposed to be leaving for a nice 14 hour drive to Memphis tomorrow morning to put some miles behind us the first day. This post should really be entitled "our lack of packing and it is after 11pm the day before" because other than look at a bunch of maps for hours on end (I love maps!) we really haven't been doing anything productive. I guess I shouldn't even call the map reading productive towards our trip since I was looking at places that we were not going to be anywhere near (cough Glacier National Park cough).

I also just realized that our plan called for us to drive through rush hour on I-40 going the same direction as everybody else. Brilliant! Hopefully that will mean that the rest of the drive will be easy breezy beautiful covergirl!

We just got a wireless internet PC card so I am psyched about the possibility of hanging out in the passenger seat, trying to forget that my little brother is driving my precious car, and getting work done slash sleeping. I have this bad feeling that at one point during this trip I'm going to wake up from one such nap and look around and think "oh hell, where are we?" and us be like 4 hours off track. Although I guess if that happened I would have to force myself to think of it as a super fun unexpected spectacular awesome adventurous adventure. I love force-fed optimism...its the best!

Hopefully I have already paid my "travel bad luck" dues (for this week at least) - I spent quite a bit of time in an insanely long security line at the Denver Airport today and then spent another few hours sitting on my plane on the tarmac. I have to say that overall I was quite impressed with the patience of the other travellers (although apparantly the public officials concerned). I luckily had arrived 2 hours before my flight (although had to run through the terminal to catch it in the end). This was definately the first time in about 10 years that I have arrived at an airport with over an hour between then and my flight. However, people around me all stood there while they knew their flight was leaving without them...and were smiling!!! Maybe people from Colorado are just born that way - good for them!

Earlier today I had the brains to put together a list of all the Chick-fil-As that we would be passing by. brilliant! However, I hope that I will be able to pry my stomach away from Chick-fil-A at some point to sample all the regional cuisine. I am super excited about the possible barbeque joints that I have picked out in Asheville for lunch.

Well, I think I am supposed to wake up in 6 hours and drive 14 so I better get going - engaging power sleep now!

Whooo hoooo! E-lo starts a blog! No idea why we didn't have any problems at the airport. You'd think midday would be more common (and difficult) to fly than a Sunday morning.
